Barney Jones
UEFA “A” Licence Coach
In 1987 Barney was appointed the Football Development Officer for Newcastle upon Tyne having previously been Head of Physical Education at a large comprehensive school in Sussex. In 1994 he started his own football coaching company the Northumberland Football Partnership.
Barney achieved his "A" licence in 1971 aged 24. His playing career included playing for English Schools, English Universities and Senior Non League teams including Skelmersdale United, Northern Nomads, Lewes FC and Eastbourne United. He Then went on to become player manager at Sussex County League side Crowborough Athletic before moving on to become the Manager of Lewes F.C. in the Isthmian League where he stayed for 5 years. He then moved to the North East of England to start the Newcastle Football Development Scheme. He has a wealth of practical coaching experience at all levels of the game, including working for the F.A. Premier League as the Director of Football at their regional Centre Of Excellence in Durham.
Barney has been a Coach Educator for the last 30 years delivering coaching and teaching courses for the Football Association, Local Authorities and other football organisations. He is now the FA Lead Tutor for Northumberland FA delivering the Level 2 and 3 Coaching Awards and leading their coach mentoring programme. Barney was the Head Coach at Team Northumbria and Northumbria University from 1997-2007. In 1995 he started the NFPsoccer website, to provide coaching resources and support for football coaches.
