Barney Jones

 

Graduated from Loughborough College in 1968 as a qualified P.E. Teacher.
Head of Physical Education at Beacon School Crowborough 1973-1987
1987-94 Football Development Officer for Newcastle upon Tyne
In 1994 started the Northumberland Football Partnership

Barney started coaching in 1968 and achieved his A licence in 1971 aged 24.
He played for English Schools and English Universities before having an extensive playing and coaching career in senior non league football including managing Lewes FC from 1982 - 87.

Having worked with schools, universities, representative teams and junior clubs, he has a wealth of practical coaching experience at all levels of the game. From 1998-2000 he worked for the Premier League as the Director of Football at their regional Centre Of Excellence in the North East.

Barney has been a Coach Educator for the last 30 years delivering coaching and teaching courses for the Football Association, Local Authorities and other football organisations.

He is now the FA Lead Tutor for Northumberland FA delivering the Level 2 and 3 Coaching Awards and leading their coach mentoring programme.
Barney is the Head Coach at Team Northumbria and Northumbria University.

   

Paul Winsper

Fitness and Conditioning Consultant and Trainer

Paul Winsper graduated with BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science in 1996. He was Head of Strength, Conditioning and Sport Science at Newcastle United Football Club between 1997-2006, covering 10 seasons.
During this time he was part of several Champions league, UEFA Cup and top 5 finishes. Prior to that he worked with Durham County Cricket Club supporting their first team and academy.
In November 2006 Paul left NUFC to pursue a range of consultancy work. Projects include: working on ground-breaking nutritional interventions with Professor Paul Greenhaff at The Queens Medical College, Nottingham University; setting up 20 UK functional conditioning centres; design of functional and personal strength and conditioning equipment; online conditioning services; and applied consultancy for among others, England Football and professional cricket clubs.

   

Simon Smith

 

Simon began his professional goalkeeping career with Newcastle United in 1978, spending four years there before moving on to Gateshead F.C, where he played 501 games over a ten year period.  
Simon went back to Newcastle United in 1993 as Academy Goalkeeping Coach. In the summer of 1999, Simon became First Team Goalkeeping Coach working under Ruud Gullit and Sir Bobby Robson for six seasons, coaching in The Premier League with goalkeepers Shay Given, Steve Harper, Lionel Perez, John Karelse and Tony Caig. During this period, Simon prepared and coached the senior goalkeepers for over 300 Premiership matches, 40 European matches including Inter Toto, UEFA Cup and Champions League matches and an F.A Cup semi final.  
Simon has also worked with professional goalkeepers at Sunderland A. F.C., Carlisle United F.C., Wigan Athletic and Hartlepool United F.C. (Alec Chamberlain, David Preece, Tony Caig, Lee Butler, Roy Carroll, Martin Holland, Jim Provett and Dimitrios Konstantopoulos)  
Simon works for The Football Association as the Goalkeeping Coach to the England Youth Teams and as a Goalkeeping Scout identifying and reporting on current and possible England goalkeepers. He has also worked as Goalkeeping Coach to the England Ladies Football Team. Simon delivers The Football Association Goalkeeping Awards from Level 1 to UEFA A standard. He also holds the Football Association Coaching Diploma.

Simon has produced two DVD's.. Keepers' Classroom and A Degree of Goalkeeping and written two books on the subject ...Goalkeeping for Soccer and Goalkeeping Practices.  
In 2006 Simon moved to Vancouver , Canada to undertake a year long secondment to research the 'biomechanics of goalkeeping', during this time he worked as a consultant to the Canadian Soccer Association, working with the Men's senior team and U18 team. He also worked in the MLS with Frank Yallop at the LA Galaxy, working with goalkeepers Steve Cronin and Kevin Hartman.
